A dragon encounter is often the moment a whole campaign builds toward. Your players should feel how big the creature is long before they see it, and sound is the easiest way to get there.

This dragon lair ambience loops a huge cavern: bubbling lava, a deep rumble, the shifting of a treasure hoard and occasional distant roars. It works as the approach through the lair and as the background for the fight itself.

For the reveal, open My Moods and trigger the dragon roar as a one-shot right as you describe the eyes opening in the dark. Add epic fantasy music when initiative is rolled and keep the lava layer running underneath.

Bubbling magma and heat from deep below

How to use it at your table

Let them hear it before they see it

Start with only the rumble and lava as the party enters. Add the roar from far away, then closer.

Use the breath weapon sound

Fire the fireball one-shot whenever the dragon uses its breath weapon. Your players will start dreading it.

Swap lava for ice or poison

Not every dragon lives in a volcano. Replace the lava with wind and frost for a white dragon, or water and drips for a black dragon's swamp.
